Winter 2016 Everything Else Thoughts – Titties Grow When You Fondle Them.

The Winter season is definitely a big surprise for a lot of us. For a chart that pretty much promised a whole pile of nothing and for the first time in a long time not giving us anything high–profile to collectively spit, bite or swallow over, the general consesus was “it´s gonna be a shit start of the year” but, regardless of that and as in our weeb nature, we still watched the premieres and boy, who could´ve guessed?

Although not all anime have aired yet, I still have enough shows I didn´t dedicate an entire post to to talk about , so I´ll do that right here. Cheers.

Oshiete! Galgo Chan might just be the pastel coloured half–lenght and not nearly as fixed on masturbation version of  Shimoneta. Then again, I´m already making this comparison and it´s only been one lousy 13 minute episode, so that should probably tell you something about the content of the show.

I´m gonna assume most of you haven´t actually seen this – I don´t blame ya, since I would´ve definitely skipped right through it aswell it if it weren´t for some random spurt in shit anime tolerance that made me watch a whole bunch of things in one go and not get tired of it. Anyways, this show, it´s a lightweight Shimoneta, minus the big social commentary plus boobs. Take that as you will.

Personally, I thought it was quite alright, I enjoyed it and god damnit, Galgo–chan is a lil cute. If you want to know fun and exciting facts about the body such as, does massaging your boobs really help them grow and is the thickness of your eyebrows the same as the thickness of your hair downstairs? then pick this up. Or don´t. You don´t really win or lose anything with this one.

Nijiro Days is my not–so–dirty–little–secret. Manga about boys dicking each other down might be more befitting of that title. Nijiro Days is probably my fluffy little secret, then. I´ve read the manga a little over a year ago and although I wasn´t particularly excited about it, I ended up reading it all in the last few days of class anyway.

I´ll admit I loved it. A lot. Like. A lot.

After getting spat on the ground and stomped on by the likes of Prince of Stride it was up to Nijiro Days to pick me up again and not make me look like a fool for lowkey hyping these shows up; frankly, I probably still look like a fool, because I doubt Nijiro Days is gonna capture anyone but its target audience if just for the cover and the general mindset of “ugh, they´re pretty boys with unnatural hair colours 0/10 I hate Free” but it´s romance. Guys, it´s romance. And not just about one couple, but four, four couples, guys, four.

It isn´t shoujo, but if I had to compare its ambient to any other anime it´d be a mix of Ore Monogatari and Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki–kun, blend them together and reduce its lenght to thirteen lonely minutes; Nijiro Days was born.

Of course I say all of this already having read the manga, and already are they cutting out wonderful pieces of comedy like all of them getting dumped on the same day. Therefore, while I will love the hell out of this, I don´t think others will really get it.

Even so, it´s definitely top–tier in my books.

Dimension W is definitely the most pretty and technical show of the season so far – it wasn´t the story or the Cowboy Bebop´s Spike reminiscent character that caught me, but it was the backgrounds. After backgrounds. After backgrounds. Obviously the studio is quite proud of their dominance over animation as they make a big point out of showing us about five different backgrounds in like, two minutes time. And they´re all stunning, rich and actually feel like you could walk right in the anime and these places could actually exist.

You should probably give this a shot, because it´s pretty much solid so far; and even though there were small mishaps with a short CGI scene with robots (which felt even more misplaced between the beautiful backgrounds) and even more signs of the studio throwing all their efforts in them (which means random shadow–drop backgrounds in close–up scenes) I still think the good heavily outweights the mediocre. Plus the opening is great.

While I´m not too sure about the actual content just yet (although it gives me Kekkai Sensen vibes), this might be the show to watch, guys.

Ah, so here´s the supposed Saekano 2.0. Otherwise known as Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya wo Mezasu. Or Girls Beyond the Wasteland. Or The Bitch Queen Show. Except I already prefer this one over that one. I´m not hating, I´m really not, I was just surprised by this show that I watched on a whim just because, and ended up enjoying every second of it – it feels a bit misplaced, really, in 2016, and seems more like it belongs in 2007. Perhaps it´s because of the tropes we haven´t seen in while, or the main character who isn´t a total sexless idiot but actually does things with his life. Moreover, I would compare this a little less to Saekano, and a little more to Sakurasou.

Whatever it is you want to compare it to, I don´t have a lot more to say apart from; I liked it a lot.

Durarara is finally on its real finale, and frankly, I´ve never been less excited. Most of us can agree to say Durarara isn´t what it was, and while you can argue it´s our nostalgia goggles talking (unless you´ve seen the first season recently, in which case please tell me what you think of the entire series as a whole) I simply don´t feel the excitement I felt before, the life of the city that seemed so real to me back then, the dynamic between character turning more heavy and annoying rather than unique and fun – don´t get me wrong; I don´t hate or dislike it nearly as much as a lot of other bloggers claim they do, in fact, I still very much enjoy it. But it isn´t what it was, and while I try my best to hype us all up claiming the next season will definitely kick the good stuff off, we´re on the third and still waiting.

And waiting. And waiting. God damnit, I don´t mind waiting a while longer.

In my preview post I said Erased is going to be this seasons Everything Becomes F. I was not wrong. Except I´m pretty sure Erased is getting a lot more recognition than Everything Becomes F ever got. Which is fine by me, the former was pretty boring even with its promising start, I´ll sit here and hope Erased doesn´t meet the same fate.

So, this show, it´s hella good – like, from a story standpoint. From a piece of fiction standpoint. It is, so far, a promising piece of fiction that will tell us a complete story which is rare as is, and the quality is nothing to sneeze at. I´m sure you´ve been told, but you should watch this. Rather than not having anything more to say there´s simply too much to say about this episode and I think I might do a weekly…discussion, yes, discussion with each episode just like I did with Psycho Pass all that time ago. For example, this week I could´ve talked about taking chances. If it keeps up with these ideas, it´d be a fun little weekly project. Anyways. This season is looking a lot brighter than I ever thought it would.
