Do you like pantyshots, fetishized chubby girls and a show about lesbian bears that eat other human lesbians in a stylish, perhaps symbolic story that represents the struggle of the LGBT life directed by alleged yuri subtext god Kunihiko Ikuhara himself? Then this season is for you, but most definitely not for simple souls like myself.
Look, I´m all about yuri and yaoi anime, especially when it has something more to say than ´look at these girls or guys kiss, look, isn´t it sexy?´ but man, Yuri Kuma Arashi is just too much for my uncomplicated soul. Maybe it just wasn´t meant to be from the get-go, because the only other Ikuhara show on my repertoire is Mawaru Penguindrum, which was superb for the first 12 episodes, and then just turned too smart or too strange for my liking and understanding.
Personally, I´m not one to dig into the symbolism of a show, if it´s there and I catch it, cool, if not, whatever. Unfortunately, Yuri Kuma Arashi – a show about girls eating other girls and a tribunal of sexy men – is spamming the season with exactly that. Some say it´s actually a coming out story, others say it´s a story that depicts the struggles of being homosexual in today´s society. Personally, I didn´t catch this message at all and, personally, all I really see is a slow, boring show with a really fancy opening.
I´m not saying it´s bad, but I just don´t understand it. That is all.
As for Absolute Duo, do I really need to go into why I dropped it? Sure, it has a neat opening – just like every other anime this season, basically – but for the rest it´s just generic harem trash featuring some dick-sure protagonist and his circle of walking talking stereotypes, do series like this really get attention? do they really make money? why?
You can say almost the same thing for Koufuku Graffiti, but at least chubby girls the animation is weird enough to make me understand its audience, hell, if this aired in any other season, I would´ve probably watched it to the end myself. Why didn´t I? Well, Mari Okada is one reason, lack of time is another. I figured I don´t care enough for the dramatic food porn adventures of potential yuri-baits to stick with it.
Naturally, I gave KanColle and the god awful Fafnir show a try, all I can really say about Fafnir is that it´s atrocious, horrendous and extremely painful to watch, it can shove its D wherever it feels necessary, but I do not need a weekly dosis of loli in my life.
KanColle, on the other hand, is just boring, in my opinion. Apparently something Madoka-like happened in the third episode, but I ain´t buying into that. Whatever man, whatever, what makes you think 3 episodes is enough to make me care about some moe girls tears?
Finally, Rolling Girls is having me confused. I have only seen the first episode, and while it´s burning with energy and while it certainly looks beautiful, I don´t think I can work up the power to watch it every week.
And that´s basically it.
