And just like that, Tokyo Ghoul has turned into the royal mess it was destined to become. Where oh where do I begin? Also, what exactly is the appeal of a character that just stares into the camera looking edgy and kind of stressed?
No, please, I´m dying to know. Wheter it´s trashy harem anime, edgy shonen hits or friggin´ Mahouka, the influx of the attractive-male-looking-intimidating-and-cool-while-staring-into-the-camera-without-saying-anything raises nothing but annoyed questionmarks in my head.
I´m a bit (very) dissapointed, because Tokyo Ghoul season 2 has been nothing but everything I didn´t like of Tokyo Ghoul season 1, y´know, the silly fights, the boring characters th- oh god, the characters. For the past 3 episodes Tokyo Ghoul has done nothing but introduce threatening looking characters that go exactly nowhere. Sure, sure, sure, maybe, just maybe Tokyo Ghoul will give itself the push it needs to become the borderline psychological ´action´ series we all secretly hoped it´d be. But come on, what 12 episode show needs more than 3 episodes to settle down on the god damn characters?
The story so far has been nothing to write home about either, everything just revolves around Kaneki, the dude who could´ve become the highlight of the show, but ends up saying nothing, thinking nothing and doing nothing but act edgy for 13 year olds to fawn ove. Honestly, where is the episode 12 Kaneki? where did he go? did Inaho give him a lesson or two on how to be a dull, stale, stuffy, mundane and tiresome main character? Fuck off, Inaho, we need that even less here than in your show.
So yeah, apart from the amazing music and slightly above average visuals, Tokyo Ghoul is slowly turning out to be just another edgy hit that could´ve been more, but stayed painfully mediocre, anyway. Will it pick up? will it get interesting? I hope it does, but maybe the new opening really is a rude synopsis of the series, because nothing ever happens.
