In the midst of the raving success One Punch Man is swimming in, studio BONES has announced that Mob Psycho 100 is currently in production and slated to air sometime in 2016 – keeping the ONE hype, but taking the torch from studio Madhouse.
In case you´re curious, Mob Psycho 100 is about some dude called Mob who doesn´t have much of a presence, think Kuroko of Kuroko no Basket minus the pretty, but is in fact a powerful esper. As Mob, which literally means John Doe, grows older, he realizes that as he suppresses his emotions, his powers risk overspilling, spelling disaster. All he wants is to become friends with a girl from his class, though.
Personally, the first thing that came to mind when I googled images of the manga was how hilariously obvious it is that this by the same dude who created One Punch Man. In case you´re confused, the illustrations were done by ONE himself, unlike the remake which was drawn by Yusuke Murata.
Now that that´s clear, I was lowkey laughing when I heard BONES was doing this rather than Madhouse; how did this happen? did Madhouse have any interest in it, did they not take the risk or did Bones snatch it before they could even consider it? looking into the future, will this actually be successful, or will the One Punch Man hype die down by the time it gets released and thus get sub-par results?
I ain´t sayin´ Bones can´t animate; they sure as hell can when they want to, but isn´t half of One Punch Man´s charm the animation and animation style? One Punch Man and Madhouse were pretty much a match made in heaven, so I´m curious how Bones is gonna hold their own against it, since it´s obviously going to get compared to each other.
One way or another, I´ll watch it – obviously – whether it´s to watch it burn, become a hit or something inbetween is up to time to tell.
In other news, Anime Nichijou has recently hit 3k subscribers, thank you all for putting up with me. Lots of love<3
