At the 2015 noitaminA Announcement Conference, the animation block rolled out the list of anime they´ll be broadcasting in 2015. Infamous for their that break from the otaku mold, noitaminA has given us shows like Nodame Cantibale, Paradise Kiss, Kids On The Slope, Samurai Flamenco, Zankyo No Terror and the airing Psycho Pass and Your Lie In April. But you know this already.
Now, in 2015 they´ve decided surrendered to pantyshots, S&M and, well, novels. Let´s take a look.
The very first series I´m gonna talk about is Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata, in English, How To Raise An Unattractive Heroine. This show will air in the Winter season.
It´s adapted by A1-Pictures and, just like Your Lie In April, this show aspires to be just as bland and semi-pretty looking. Hopefully, it´ll be slightly less offensive. Regardless, the title is plenty stupid because honestly, the cast is essentially an army of pretty girls and one otaku doofus.
If this show has anything going for it (it doesn´t) it´s the funky story:
Tomoya Aki is a hard otaku who one day sees a girl on a slope during his part-time job (which he only has to buy anime Blu-rays, obviously) and has the fantastic idea of creating a doujin dating simulation featuring her. One month later, he learns that she is actually one of his classmates and that her name is Megumi Kato. Can he complete the game in time for Comiket with the help of Eriri Spencer Sawamura (the most talented member in the art club and the half-foreign childhood friend) and the top grade students, Utaha Kasumigaoka?
Anyway, I have no real hopes for this. Neverthless, if a group of cute girls making a dating sim while being dramatic and in love with the main character sounds like your cup of tea, please, take your sip.
Next up is a series that you´d expect from a studio like TRIGGER, instead, it´s by Mappa. Yes. Mappa. Are their pockets already crying?
Written and directed by people that have done essentially nothing, Punch Line is a show about a boy that will destroy the world if he sees panties. The staff hinted that the reason Komuro was chosen for composer is due to the fact that the anime has a strong connection to music. The slogan for the anime is, “Once he sees underwear, humanity is destroyed!?” or something similarly awkward. It´ll air in April.
Punch Line looks like a kiddy show and the premise, character design and everything else just doesn´t appeal to me. Again, I´ll take a pass out of this one.
The most interesting anime on the list doesn´t even have a teaser or a trailer. All we really know is that it´s called Knocking on the Walls of the Armored Fortress, directed by Tetsuro Araki (Death Note, Attack On Titan) & written by Ichiro Okouchi (creator of Code Geass) It´ll also be produced by WIT studio.
Honestly, these names are enough to get me hyped.
Next is Subete Ga F ni Naru, or Everything Becomes F. Not much has been said about this except that it´s adapted from a S&M 1996 novel that spawned a live action series this year. The anime will be directed by Elfen Lied´s Mamoru Kanbe, and it´ll be animated by A-1 Pictures.
The story of the original novel revolves around Sōhei Saikawa, a member of the Saikawa Research Lab. He goes on a vacation held by the lab, and Moe Nishinosono, the daughter of his mentor, joins the group on their vacation despite not being a part of the lab. There, the two end up finding a corpse. The two work together to solve the mysteries of what becomes a serial murder case.
One can just hope that this will be filled with smut and glory. Unfortunately, this is anime, so I doubt it. Anyways, I´ll keep an eye out on this one.
Finally, we have Game Of Laplace, which is an ode to the late (And acclaimed) Edogawa Ranpo, who passed away 50 years ago. Produced by Lerche (Re:_Hamatora) and directed by Seiji Kishi (Persona 4)
The video’s text reads:
The duplicate world is a dream. The night dream is an illusion.
Original Story Concepts by Edogawa Ranpo
Mysterious Stories of Ranpo: Game of Laplace
So you think this thing called reality is so romantic?
If Lerche does it justice, this may have interesting results. Again, I´ll be watching this one.
All in all, the 2015 NotaminA line-up looks alright. Some are definitely more interesting than others.
