With some smooth animation and a main character who might win an award for the most irritating excuse of a protagonist ever, people left and right have been calling this the hybrid of Ouran Higschool Host Club and Sagebu – if only the main character didn´t make me want to agressively punch a hole in the computer screen out of the window everytime she´s on screen, I might even have agreed.
Man oh man, I didn´t think an anime could be ruined by a character, but Aoharu x Kikanjuu is getting pretty damn close to doing it – I don´t think this is anywhere near the feet of the iconic Ouran Highschool Host Club though, and would morelike compare it to Kaichou wa Maid Sama – because for now, all the comedy, great animation and funky action scenes are completely and utterly ruined by Hotaru – the tomboy main character who has a hard-on for justice in ways that Sailor Moon could only look up to.
But despite my overwhelming dislike over Hotaru, I actually quite liked Aoharu x Kikanjuu – it´s not the badass, action bromantic story of hot guys shooting their guns at eachother, but damn it, it´s decent enough, and Matsuoka is pretty awesome, and the hentai mangaka at the end of the episode seems like my kind of guy.
I don´t expect this to get life threateningly serious any time soon, but more like some slice of life and quirky situations that´ll make up for a decent, forgettable show – personally, I would´ve thrown these characters in danger with real guns and real romance and real bromance, but Gangsta. will scratch that itch for me this season. I´ll watch this.
