The Top Four Gateway Anime, A List You’ve Probably Seen Before.

Space-Dandy-1I don’t think anyone would fault you for wanting to talk about your hobbies; wheter it’s anime, football or Kpop. And sometimes, the internet alone just doesn’t cut the chase and you want to talk face-to-face to someone about the latest Non Non Byori or Kill la Kill episode. I myself know this best, but apart from being led into the medium by one of my friends, I thereafter also led others into this niche hobby where moe is law and all your waifus aren’t even legal. So there goes nothing and I’ll give you a hint of what anime has a better chance of scoring to a stranger of the medium, all based of my own opinion and experience of course.

1) Death Note

This one should be obvious. Apart from probably breaking all the previous preconceptions of the viewer of anime, and besides, it’s a genuinely amazing show that can call itself worthy of the “modern classic” title. This was the anime that got me, some of my friends and just another million people around the world into anime. So there.

2) Ouran HSHCHighschool DxD

I guarantee that if you show someone the best of anything, they’ll soon get bored. And let’s get real, fanservice shows and reverse harem shows make up for a pretty big portion of the fandom, so I think Ouran and DxD are a fair choice because, even if they are what they are, they aren’t overly obnoxious with it. Lots of my friends preffered Ouran over Death Note simply because their womanly instincts went wild, and I can say the same about DxD, I guess.

3)Attack On Titan

Were you expecting it? Probably. Shingeki is probably the show that will get the best reception out of all the shows on this list; But people are going to be dissapointed if they want anything else like this. Trust me I’ve heard enough people tell me that they like Shingeki but they don’t like anime, so yeah. Still, it has everything going for it, but it doesn’t have that one ingredient where you want a taste of the entire medium.

.

And that’s basically it. Sure, I could add Black Butler, Madoka, Nana, Vampire Knight, Free!, Fullmetal and all those jazz, but I think that those really depend on the person, and while of course the four titles above depend on the person too, I think they’re a little easier to enjoy than, let’s say, a 60 episode long show that takes 20 episodes to get going. Yeah I don’t like Fullmetal, deal with it. Again, this all probably sounds very biased, so take the list with a grain of salt and don’t get too worked up over it if you don’t agree. Thank you for reading and have a nice dayevening :)

  1. My eyes popped a little when I saw DxD #2, but it makes sense the more I think about it. We don’t think often enough about how a lot of people find anime on the internet via streaming sites these days (which makes starting on fanservice less awkward) rather than in-person recommendations or TV.
